The board of AEK Athens B.C. announces the signing of Loukas Mavrokefalidis.Former Panathinaikos player, Loukas Mavrokefalidis (31 years, 2.10m) signed a two-year contract with the ”Queen”.
Biography:
Mavrokefalidis started his professional career at PAOK and played in the Greek Basket League during the season 2005-06, with his average scoring at 16.7 points and 8.4 rebounds per game.
During the summer of 2006, Mavrokefalidis signed with Virtus Roma of the Italian League. In February 2007, he was traded from Roma to Pamesa Valencia of the Spanish ACB League. On July 12, 2007, Mavrokefalidis joined Olympiacos and in 2008 he moved to Maroussi. In 2009, he re-signed with Olympiacos through the 2010-11 season.
In 2011, Mavrokefalidis was signed by the Russian League club Spartak Saint Petersburg for two years and he signed with FC Barcelona in May 2013.
On 10 July 2013, he was announced as a signing of Panathinaikos. Mavrokefalidis helped Panathinaikos won the Greek League trophy in 2014. He has also won four Greek Cup titles – two with Olympiacos in 2010 and 2011, and two more with Panathinaikos in 2014 and 2015.
At the 2015 Greek Basket League Playoffs, he was the best player for Panathinaikos and in the top 5 players of the League.
Mavrokefalidis is also a member of the Greek national team. He helped Greece reach the 2005 U21 World Championships final and get a bronze medal at the 2003 U19 World Championships. He was selected in the 2006 NBA Draft by the Minnesota Timberwolves.
