AEK Betsson BC announces the beginning of its collaboration with Stevan Mijovic, who will join Coach Dragan Sakota’s technical staff.
The 32-year-old Serbian coach began his career at Crvena Zvezda (Red Star), where he spent six consecutive years overseeing the club’s youth development system. During his time there, he led his teams to national titles and notable distinctions in Euroleague tournaments such as the Nike International and Adidas Next Generation Tournament. He also served as assistant coach for the Men’s Team for one season.
In 2017, he moved to KK Dynamic Belgrade, where he held various roles until 2021, serving as head coach of the youth teams and as first assistant coach for the Men’s Team in domestic competitions and the ABA League 2.
His next stops were as head coach at Kolubara Lazarevac (2021–2022) and Radnički Kragujevac (2022–2024), where he led the team to promotion to the Serbian First Division and was named “Coach of the Year” in the Second Division by eurobasket.com.
In 2024, he coached FMP Soccerbet in the ABA League, and last season he took over as head coach of Dynamic Balkan Bet in Serbia’s First Division.
Mijovic has also served in various roles within Serbia’s National Teams across nearly all age levels. He was assistant coach for the U16 (2019–2020), U18 (2020–2022)—winning silver at the 2021 Challenger in Skopje and bronze at the 2022 European Championship in Turkey—and U19 (2022–2023). Since 2025, he has been the head coach of the Serbian U16 National Team.
Coach Mijovic made the following statement after signing his one-year contract with the “Queen”:
“It is a great honor and joy to work for such a big Club like AEK—an emblem with a long and powerful history, in a beautiful city and country like Athens and Greece, surrounded by warm and welcoming people, and the most passionate fans in the stands.
All of this brings a huge challenge and an even greater responsibility. I can’t wait to get started. I’m confident that we will have success in all competitions. We’ll give our best to have an even more successful season than the last, which was truly impressive.
When I received the phone call from Coach Dragan Sakota, I was thrilled. It was a huge honor just to have the opportunity to speak with someone of his caliber—a man who has left his mark on Serbian, Greek, and European basketball. It didn’t take long for us to understand each other and reach an agreement. I look forward to working with Coach Sakota, because I believe I still have a lot to learn and grow, and this is the perfect opportunity. I hope for a successful and long-term collaboration. See you all soon!”
